In partnership with Urban Potential, Inc. Trinity Church offers the Urban Challenge, an opportunity for people not familiar with the joys and challenges of living in a city to experience urban life firsthand. The Urban Challenge is one of the programs of Urban Potential, a 501c3 organization operating in the Forest Park section of Springfield.
The Urban Challenge is an invitation to extend yourself beyond the boundaries of your hometown into the neighborhoods of Springfield, MA, the fourth largest city in New England.
This multi-day program (either weekend or week long) can serve in a variety of ways: as an alternative spring break, a confirmation retreat, or a unique mission trip. It is appropriate for both youth and adults who want to learn more about the challenges and joys found in cities.
This urban immersion will offer opportunities to spend time with people facing challenging life issues and to work alongside organizations that advocate for and support city residents.
Participants are involved in service and educational activities that engage them in the issues related to poverty and social justice. In addition, they enjoy some of the benefits of the city including, dining out, the Basketball Hall of Fame, Forest Park, a variety of venues for the arts and the Springfield Museums.
Our faith calls us to see Christ in everyone in the community. Recognizing the challenge of this call, prayer and reflection time are also an essential part of the Urban Challenge.
